I have owned a Luhrs 290 (1995) for eight years and have had an ongoing problem with a vibration that starts at 2300 rpm and get worse until 3100 rpm. It is minimal above 3100 rpm. It tends to be harmonic in nature, that is it lasts for a few seconds and then smooths out for a few seconds. This is not a boat shuddering event, but enouigh to annoy me and I find it hard to believe that this boat should not run smooth thru all rpm ranges. I have new three bladed 18 x 19 props, the shafts have been checked and are fine, engine alignment is good, strut bearings are two years old and show no uneven wear. I contacted Luhrs and their answer was to change to 4 bladed props - before I spend the money I really need to know it is going to solve the problem. Have also considered RD shaft dampers. How about it, can anyone help this "anal" captain out (one that treats his vessel better than his friends).
Nasty little things to find. One way is to eliminate things. Remove the props.does it vibrate while sitting still now? If so then disconnect couplings, then shutdown 1 engine at a time. Note any new vibes this method might add, you are looking for "your" vibe. The others will go away again, as you reconnect.
Keep in mind it may be a hull shudder. Everything has a resonce point. Is this vibe always been with you? Perhaps you can pinpoint an event, afterwhich you noticed this pesky devil?

Hi, Imagine the vibes are long gone but just ran across this site, I have a 2000 29 and I run the 4 blade props, never had a vibe problem(400hrs). I ran the 3 blades for awhile but the 4's always run smoother. The fuel inject Crusaders have also been good. Hope you are having good luck with the boat. regards, allen
